BioForward would like to remind you about an exciting opportunity for highlighting new technology at the upcoming 2010 Biotechnology Vision Summit, hosted in Madison, WI. We would appreciate your help in sharing this exciting announcement. Please forward to anyone who may be interested in applying.

BioForward is providing a scholarship opportunity for up to six (6) emerging companies to be highlighted at the 2010 Biotechnology Vision Summit. We expect over 400 attendees, including investors and biotechnology leaders with national and international standing.

Who Should Apply?

Wisconsin-based companies, less than four years old who have biotechnology products (healthcare, agriculture, energy, etc.) should apply. The Company should be able to display the product and/or technology as an exhibit at the conference.

The Midwest BioLink Center Is Ready to Roll with Federal and State Support

A state-of-the-art facility that will serve as a research catalyst is a significant step closer to reality. The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration announced a grant of $4.5 million and the Wisconsin Department of Commerce also pledged $200,000 of additional support for the development of the BioLink Center. Technology incubators are flourishing in Wisconsin, and not just in major metropolitan areas like Madison and Milwaukee. Similar to the BioAg Gateway, the Agriculture and Energy Resource Center in Ashland County and the Central Wisconsin Agribusiness Innovation Center in Clark County are two such organizations in the heart of the state that will leverage the agricultural past to create a vibrant agricultural future in their communities in partnership with BioAg Gateway.

The Ag Showcase is the leading annual global event for industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and investors in agribusiness. On May 12, the City of Madison and Thrive were featured presenters at the WEDA (Wisconsin Economic Development Association) Regional Conference in Menomonie, WI.

At the conference, Michael Gay presented the plan, the vision and the marketing efforts of the BioAg Gateway to developers, biotech companies and industry experts – ensuring that the BioAg Gateway project becomes a statewide initiative.

Cities across the country — and Madison in particular — are very aware of the potential and need for social and economic development change surrounding agriculture and food.

With respect to later, it is estimated that food production in the next decade will become much more decentralized due to food safety, food quality, and energy issues (to name a few reasons). Consumer education will help drive this market change toward sustainability. Locally, citizens are questioning how food is grown (organic), where it comes from (local), is it healthy (fresh, safe, slow foods), and is the product and it’s packaging sustainable (environmental, economic, and land use impacts).
